What BonsaiChef is
BonsaiChef is a cooking coach: it helps you track your pantry, find and generate recipes, log meals, and estimate nutrition. It is provided by Ethan Coffin.
Food safety, allergies, and nutrition — please read
Recipes, cooking guidance, ingredient identifications, and nutrition estimates — especially those produced by AI — can be wrong. You are responsible for verifying that food is safely prepared (temperatures, storage, cross-contamination), that ingredients are safe for you (allergies, intolerances, dietary or medical restrictions), and that nutrition information is accurate where it matters to your health. BonsaiChef is not medical or dietary advice. When in doubt, consult a qualified professional.
Dietary information
Diet labels (vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free and similar), allergen indications, and nutrition figures in BonsaiChef are generated automatically from ingredient text. They are provided as-is, without warranty of any kind, and may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong: an ingredient can be misread, a hidden or derived ingredient can be missed, and what a dish actually contains depends on the specific products you buy.
These labels are a convenience, not a safety check. If you have a food allergy, an intolerance, or a medical dietary requirement, you must independently verify every ingredient in a recipe and read the packaging of the products you use before cooking or eating. Filtering recipes by a dietary setting in the app is not a guarantee that the results meet that requirement. Nothing in the app is medical, dietary, or allergen advice, and to the maximum extent permitted by law we accept no liability for any loss, injury, or harm arising from reliance on an automatically generated dietary, allergen, or nutrition label. When it matters to your health, check the ingredients yourself or consult a qualified professional.
BonsaiChef Plus and Premium subscriptions
- BonsaiChef Plus and BonsaiChef Premium are auto-renewing subscriptions purchased through your Apple account. Each is offered as a monthly or an annual plan.
- The current price of each plan is shown in the app and on the App Store payment sheet before you purchase.
- Payment is charged to your Apple account at confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Manage or cancel anytime in your device's Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Free features have daily usage limits, such as AI recipe generations and photo scans. Plus raises those limits, and Premium raises them further. We may adjust limits to keep the service sustainable, and will communicate meaningful changes.
Fair use
Don't attempt to circumvent usage limits, probe or disrupt our servers, or use the app's AI features for purposes unrelated to cooking and food. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service.
Your content
Photos you submit are used to provide the feature you requested (see the Privacy Policy). You confirm you have the right to submit what you upload.
Intellectual property
The app, its design, and its content (excluding your data and third-party recipe content) belong to us. Recipe results from third-party sources remain subject to their owners' rights.
Data sources
Nutrition information and some recipes in BonsaiChef are provided by the fatsecret Platform API, and your use of that data is also subject to fatsecret's Platform API terms. Other recipes come from BonsaiChef's own recipe collection, or are generated by AI at your request; recipes you import remain the property of their original publishers.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Changes and termination
We may update these terms or discontinue features; material changes will be reflected on this page. You may stop using the app at any time.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
